Is Ovulation Induction

Right for You?

Learn more if ovulation induction if the right path for you to get pregnant

Ovulation induction may be right for you and your path to get pregnant.

Ovulation induction is often used to improve the chances of pregnancy in women. It is a fertility treatment strategy that is often used as the first line of treatment for individuals experiencing infertility. It involves the use of oral or injectable infertility drugs to stimulate the development of eggs. Ovulation, in conjunction with infertility drugs, is often combined with intrauterine insemination (IUI). IUI involves an injection of the partner’s sperm or a donor’s sperm in the uterus at the time of ovulation to increase the likelihood of conception.

Take this short fertility test to assess your fertility potential and to learn how to enhance your fertility. It will give you valuable information about yourself.

How do you know if you are the right candidate for ovulation induction?

Ovulation induction can be used in individuals who have:

  • cervical factor infertility
  • unexplained infertility
  • mild endometriosis
  • mild male factor infertility
  • irregular menstrual cycles
  • persistent infertility due to mild poor egg quality in spite of other treatments.

What medications are used for ovulation induction?

The most common medications that are used for ovulation induction are Clomid and Letrozole. Both drugs are taken orally. Less commonly, an injectable medication can be used to make multiple follicles grow in the ovaries. The injectable medications contain follicle-stimulating hormones (FSH) or human menopausal gonadotropins (HMG). The medications control the timing of the egg release so that sexual intercourse and intrauterine inseminations can be scheduled at the most likely time to become pregnant.

There is an increased chance of multiple pregnancies with injectable medication than with medications taken orally. No increase in birth defects or congenital abnormalities has been associated with any of these medications. In addition to multiple births, Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) is a risk, but the risk is minimized when patients are monitored closely.

What is the success rate with ovulation induction?

Fertility medications, combined with IUI, have an 11.29% chance of pregnancy success per fertility cycle when used for unexplained fertility.

Individuals experiencing a fertility challenge are often confused when and with which first line of therapy to start with among medication only, medical with insemination, or in vitro fertilization. Each type of approach uses different drugs and consists of hundreds of protocols and treatment add-ons.
