Fun fact about me:
I’m a good dancer.
Sports and music.
What inspired you to become an Reproductive Endocrinologist?
It’s really simple. Reproductive endocrinology is at the frontier of science. The reproductive pursuit is a very intimate one and outside of someone struggling with cancer it’s probably the most intimate interaction you’ll encounter in medicine. That was very valuable to me. I wanted to go into medicine to do something that actually mattered. You ride the emotions with the patient and you give a little bit of yourself.
How would your patients describe you in one word?
Why did you join Opionato?
There is a gap in trusted resources for patients online. Obviously people use the web a lot and in a field like fertility. Reproductive age women are high users of the internet and the internet can be a rabbit hole that one can fall into and never escape from. Having trusted resources that people can utilize is valuable I wanted to attach myself to efforts that were achieving that goal.
What motivates you?
Helping people. I’m motivated by a drive to help people navigate the highs and lows of this process. While I strive to, I can’t get everybody pregnant but I can make sure everyone feels supported – as they navigate the process because it’s stressful in and of itself. So what motivates me is making sure everyone walks away, whether they’re successful in reaching their family building goal or not, that they walk away knowing they did everything possible and that they were supported throughout I am motivated to provide this feeling of support to everyone that walks in the door.
Is there something you tell all of your patients? A personal mantra?
Infertility is a roller coaster ride. It’s a short ride for some. It’s a long ride for others. I’m on that ride with you – you should never feel like you’re on an island.
What do you wish more people knew about fertility?
Up to 50% of couples will have a male factor and fertility is not just a female problem. It takes two to tango. That’s one thing I want more people to know. Men need to get with the program and I think more will over time.
